San Ysidro School District

The San Ysidro School District is a K-8 district with six elementary schools and one middle school. The district serves over 5,550 students and is projected to double its student population in the next 10 years. There are presently 285 certificated and 190 classified employees employed by the district.

The district’s operating budget is approximately $33 million annually. The San Ysidro District voters also passed a $250 million dollar school bond, which will be used to upgrade the schools and build new schools based on projected growth.

SYSD has already taken a major step towards its goal of an enhanced, sustainable learning environment through the installation of solar arrays at many school sites. To supplement these efforts, in February 2022 SYSD contracted with Building Resource Company to develop and implement a district-wide sustainability plan, funded in part by CalSHAPE plumbing and HVAC grant. BR secured $464,742 in Phase I funding for HVAC assessment, with additional funding expected in 2022.

During the on-site assessment, engineers will also evaluate plumbing equipment, lighting, controls, and building operation for opportunities to help the district achieve its stated facility goals of

  1. Decreasing the amount of energy that the facilities consume (primarily water and electricity)
  2. Employing materials that are less resource consuming (recycled and less volatile products)
  3. Enhancing the indoor environment (creating healthier learning environments)
